Hi, I'm a maxillofacial prosthodontist

Ok, I normally put This post’s lesson at the end of each post, but this time, I’m going to start off with it because I learned reaaaaaaal quickly that I’m a terrible mathematician! In my About Me and whenever I joke around, I say that I’m a 27th grader but in working on this post, I finally did the math and I’m a… 26th grader. And when you count my public health service between two residencies. So folks, if you need to do basic calculations, may you be forewarned that I may not be your first choice.

But back to prosthodontics…

If you’ve been following my social media outlets (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook), I’ve been out and about to conferences in between patient care and concluding the Ranula Chronicles.

This most recent conference (#MCSMN) was about how to use social media effectively and efficiently to promote education between institutions, colleagues, and patients and act as a resource for solid, evidence-based information (not fake news).

Inspired by the seminars, panels, and influencers leading the conference, I decided to try something new. So here it is: My very first VLOG

I wanted to share what a maxillofacial prosthodontist is and how I (and others) have made the journey towards that subspecialty. Long story short, many years of education are necessary but each step in the road provides the stepping stone towards better appreciating the type of care and training associated with each level of dental education.

I hope to incorporate different forms of media because 1) there are many ways to disseminate information 2) there are many ways to learn and gain knowledge 3) why not try something new (at least for me!)

Time-wise, it’s an exciting period as major conferences of the North America-based prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthodontics organizations are holding their annual meetings. I’m looking forward to reuniting with colleagues from afar, while also meeting new individuals and also individuals who are new to prosthodontics!

This post’s lesson #2: Watching yourself and hearing your voice as you edit video is seriously the worst
